With the major efforts of the Mali Rising Foundation (MRF), to making education a reality for thousands of children in rural areas of Mali, the following middle schools have been built and the gift of education has been given to 1,325 students so far.
The Tentou Middle School was the first school built by the Mali Rising Foundation. It was dedicated in the summer of 2006. It was named after Jackie Trujillo, one of the major contributors.
The school has three classrooms, with two full-time teachers. There are 88 girls and 107 boys ages 13-17 that attend this school.
This school was built and opened in 2007. It was named for Pete Harman, who made a substantial contribution.
In this three-classroom facility, there are three full-time teachers who teach 109 girls and 137 boys between the ages of 13 and 17.
This school was built and opened in 2008. It serves the villages of Tamala, Beneco, and Bamakoni. The Frances W. Burton Foundation whose name it bears funded the school. It has five full-time teachers where 67 girls and 85 boys ages 9-14 attend.
With four full-time teachers, this school serves the communities of Simidji, Tentoucoro, Marako, and Mana. This new school in Simidji was made possible in part because of the efforts of Hazel Fong.
The facility was built and opened in 2008 where 85 girls and 91 boys ages 13 to 17 are currently attending.
Thanks to the generosity of the Mellor Foundation, the Kassela Middle School was built and opened in 2008. It serves the Kassela community.
In this school, six full-time teachers educate a total of 105 girls and 107 boys ages 13 to 17.
The Zelani Middle School was made possible thanks to the generosity of Blaine and Barbara Hudson. This school was built and opened in 2008.
A total of 55 girls and 87 boys ages 13 to 17 attend this school where there are six full-time teachers. This school serves the community of Zelani.
This new school was made possible because of the generous donations from the Mellor Foundation. The Sequessona Middle School was built and opened in 2008.
At this school, six full-time teaches educate a total of 95 girls and 107 boys ages 13 to 17.
As of April 2009, the MRF has plans for two additional schools. One will be located in the village of Mana. The major contributions for this school are coming from the Little Heroes Foundation.
The second school that has been approved will be built in Gnenkekoro. It is being made possible by the generosity of Marilou Moser Family and Friends.
These two new schools will provide educational opportunities for an additional 236 middle school children.
